The muscles that power movement of the shoulder include the muscles of the rotator cuff and the large deltoid muscle, which provides the rounded contour of the shoulder. The ligaments of the shoulder provide stability to the joint and keep the humeral head from dislocating from the glenoid. Any one of these bones, ligaments or muscle groups can potentially be a source of shoulder pain or disability. The end of the humerus articulates with the radius and ulna bones of the forearm to allow for the extension and rotation of your elbow.
